 Daily Volunteers

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, portion, and package meals in accordance with established food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Assist with receiving, sorting, and organizing food donations and inventory.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food preparation areas, equipment, and workstations throughout the shift.
  • Support meal distribution by assembling meal bags, trays, or boxes for clients and community members.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper handling, storage, and labeling of food items.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure efficient workflow and timely service.
  • Provide courteous, respectful interaction with clients, volunteers, and team members.
  • Report supply needs, safety concerns, or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.

General Labor Responsibilities

  • Will be responsible for ensuring that the areas are all cleaned, the floors are mopped as necessary
  • Will ensure that products are loaded and unloaded from the containers as directed
  • Must be able to lift boxes weighing between 10lbs and 15lbs

New Skills Participant Is Projected to Learn

  • Safe food handling practices, including proper storage, labeling, and temperature control.
  • Meal preparation techniques such as portioning, assembling trays/bags, and following basic recipes.
  • Sanitation and cleaning procedures for food service environments, including equipment care.
  • Inventory management skills, including sorting donations, rotating stock, and tracking supplies.
  • Customer service and communication skills through interaction with clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Time‑management and teamwork skills by working within a structured kitchen or pantry workflow.
  • Workplace professionalism, including punctuality, following instructions, and maintaining a clean work area.

Criteria for Selection/Requirement

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and consistently apply safe food‑handling and sanitation practices.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift light to moderate items, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility toward assigned duties.
  • Professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Basic organizational skills to assist with sorting, stocking, and maintaining inventory.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work area at all times.

Mandatory Responsibilities

Volunteers must remain alcohol‑ and drug‑free at all times while on site. Any volunteer who arrives smelling of THC or any other substance will be dismissed immediately.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers must be able to provide electronic or hard‑copy contact information so that verification of completed service‑learning hours can be sent to the appropriate school or program.
